Do you love the sweetheart with whom you spend much of your time? Do you REALLY? How much do you love her?
If you are already married, are you content with only enjoying your wife and children "until death do you part?" What happens when death strikes. Does your relationship continue? Are you satisfied with the thought that after this life you will be without your wife and children at your side? Remember, your marriage covenant may be "do you promise to love, honor, and respect her through sickness and health, through hard times and plenty until death do you part?" So what about after death?
15 Therefore, if a man marry him a wife in the world, and he marry her not by me nor by my word, and he covenant with her so long as he is in the world and she with him, their covenant and marriage are not of force when they are dead, and when they are out of the world; therefore, they are not bound by any law when they are out of the world. (Doctrine and Covenants 132:15)
Is that satisfactory to you? It isn't satisfactory to me.
When I suggested to my sweetheart that I wanted her to be my wife, I intended and she also intended that our bond should extend into the eternities. Today there are only a few places where God's authority is granted to bind and seal a husband and a wife together for time and all eternity. Those places are called Temples, and are dedicated Houses of our God. They are reserved for those who are prepared and worthy to enter to partake of the sacred ordinances contained within them.
My sweetheart and I entered into the Los Angeles Temple and made covenants with each other and with the Lord. As a result we were sealed for Time and all Eternity by one holding proper authority provided we live up to the covenants we made with each other and with the Lord. We propose to enjoy each other's company through the eternities with our children and grandchildren.
These blessings are available to all of God's children if they are willing to prepare and are willing to accept sacred covenants that will make them worthy to receive these blessings and remain true and faithful to those covenants. The Lord invites each of you to do as we did.
18 And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife, and make a covenant with her for time and for all eternity, if that covenant
is not by me or by my word, which is my law, and is not sealed by the
Holy Spirit of promise, through him whom I have anointed and appointed
unto this power, then it is not valid neither of force when they are out
of the world, because they are not joined by me, saith the Lord,
neither by my word; when they are out of the world it cannot be received
there, because the angels and the gods are appointed there, by whom
they cannot pass; they cannot, therefore, inherit my glory; for my house
is a house of order, saith the Lord God.
